25-Jun-2006 Session II: Summary
( Editor's note: A good beginning, group. I had quite a bit of information to impart to you to setup the story, so I did the bulk of the talking in the first session, but as we continue forward you'll each have abundant chances to flex your RPG muscles. I was happy to see each of you exploring the skills, hobbies and personalities of your characters and your exerience for the first session will certainly reflect this. I summarized the session to capture the important facts.)
The evening of 2 Marpenoth, 1372 find most of our heroes at The Sloppy Kettle, discussing the increasing efficiency with which the orcs from Murann seem to be carrying out their caravan raids.
Thorik is absent, having returned to his family and friends in Keczulla to celebrate the Highharvestide festival. Elros, being more mercurial than most, comes as goes with his whims and is also not to be found.
The rest, (including a small, odd-looking, halfling-size creature that seems to follow Amaren about) are spending their evening at the Sloppy Kettle. Celion buys a round of drinks and mentions a new job, which will require Adventuring Guild membership but promises a greater paycheck and increased renoun. The group reluctantly agrees (ugh, membership dues!) and they are addressed by a mysterious, hooded stranger with a delivery they must make.
An ornate, magically sealed wooden box with mysterious (but not evil, according to Amaren) contents must be delivered to a representative at the imperial palace at Caer Callidyrr, one Jerrfred Marlindant no later than 16 Marpenoth. The contents of the box will be used by High Queen Alicia Kendrick and her consort, High King Keane to maintain peace within the Moonshae Isles. Heavy penalties are imposed for failure or a late delivery. The job pays 500 dragons (gp) up front and another 500 upon delivery, but the big prize here is the chance to gain favor with the Council of Six, the Shadow Thieves and the Imperial family in Caer Callidyrr.
To make the delivery, the group will need to meet a ship named The Last Elixir at the Athkatla docks on 7 Marpenoth so they provision up and ride north toward Crimmor. Celion promises to send Elros and Thorik on fast horses as soon as they can be found. During their ride north the party spots Balagos the Red Flame, a gargantuan, red wyrm from the Troll Mountains soaring high above. Curious...
Entering Crimmor, a popular caravan stop and well-fortified city, the group boards their horses and relaxes for the evening. Xelritch, Cloud and Milo head for Tymorian Trails, a popular night spot. Xel finds a partner to play darts with (and loses several dragons to a keen player, Lalion Hilior) while Milo drops a close wrestling match to a Dark Moon named Zigol. Meanwhile, Stolig and Amaren visit the local Guildhouse to gather some information. They meet a gent called Lloyd Forans who knows little about Balagos and suggests that the pair visit Kimimer Jedrassen, the knowledgable but undervalued town historian. All party members return to Drover's Drink, their usual Crimmor hangout and each gets a good nights' rest (with Stolig fiddling a bit with his invention first).
The following morning (4 Marpenoth) Stolig meets with Kimimer who speculates that Balagos must see something that interests him to be traveling this far west with such frequency. He has no literature on Balagos, but promises to do some research and ready it for Stolig's next visit to Crimmor. The party breaks their fast and retrieves their horses from the livery, ready to journey west toward Athkatla.
